Hello, I’m

Elizabeth Marie Swamy

Ayurvedic Doula + Practitioner, Yoga Teacher, MA

I learned about Āyurveda during my yoga teacher training - a funny story actually. I missed the day my class learned about Āyurveda, so to make up the hours I proposed a project, to create a digital brochure sharing the basics of Āyurveda and a few recipes. I called it an Āyurveda zine :) It was a fun project, but what I found during the independent study was much more than some tips and recipes, I found a language and practice that articulated my personal experience of the world. For the first time I had found my true community, my sangha.

I took an introductory class at Kripalu School of Ayurveda and was energized by each teacher and lesson. I continued my studies at this school and graduated as an Āyurveda Health Counselor. Kripalu is known as one of the best schools in the west and brings in expert teachers to share their knowledge. Āyurveda is very much in its infancy here in the United States - practitioners and teachers are using grassroot efforts to share knowledge and experience. They are pioneers in the field. But don't let that deter you from the offerings of Āyurveda because this science is over 5,000 years old. Āyurveda's offerings for healing the body have been tested over and over by generations of practitioners.

While at Kripalu, I connected strongly with one teacher in particular, Dr. Anusha Sehgal of Boston Ayurveda Inc. and learned that she was running an advanced program for those students who wanted to continue their studies. I graduated with my Āyurveda Practitioner in 2022 and will continue on to obtain my Āyurveda Doctorate under Dr. Anusha.

I was born in Michigan, raised in Wisconsin, and spent much of my adulthood in New York City before moving to California. I hold a Master's degree from NYU in nonprofit business and have a resume that showcases some pretty cool, high profile gigs. This includes running a prominent booth at an acclaimed film festival, working in medical research at the UW Madison Hospital, caring for children in a Montessori preschool, counseling youth at a crisis center, running my own dance company, and teaching yoga and meditation.

I am most proud that regardless of my role, I made it my mission to care for those I served. I believe my purpose in this life is to care for this world in which we live. Connecting with nature and it’s rhythms is very important to me and shapes the way I work with my clients. You will find that I listen intently and meet you where you are at - because we are all works in progress and we are all striving to live the best life we can. I am here for you without judgment or expectation but instead with love, compassion and encouragement. I will treat you how I want to be treated - which is a GOOD thing because I like a queen’s treatment :)

I live in San Jose with my husband and our french bulldog, Pali.

Namaste,
Liz
